API Capacitors are the UK leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality capacitors for power electronic applications. Our extensive range of products provide capacitors for the traction, avionics, and industrial drive markets. We have customer base which includes major European and north American blue-chip companies. Our USP is the provision of custom innovative design and manufacture to order packages to suit any customer requirements. API Capacitors have supplied units for CERN on the large hadron collider, capacitors for the royal navies propulsion system and units for F1 for Mercedes HPC.

API Capacitors is part of the API holdings groups including our sister companies PPI Engineering (motor/generator design and manufacture), API engineering (supplier of steel mill and mining equipment) and API-stone (supplier of bespoke stonework cladding for buildings).

The business is investing in product improvement and manufacturing capability. There is a requirement for an electrical/production engineer with experience in the design, modelling, and drafting of components and manufacturing tooling.

Job Role

  • Production routine and bespoke electrical testing in the HV lab.
  • Undertake R&D project testing and produce final reports.
  • Tender design technical proposal using the in-house developed capacitor design software.
  • Liaise with the Drawings Office for any drawing requirements.
  • Production of product documentation packs for manufacturing.
  • Production of product documentation packs for R&D projects.
  • Documentation control and management.
  • Liaise with Quality Control, Production Supervisor, and Drawings Office to optimise manufacturing instructions and processes to reduce costs and manufacturing time, without compromising the quality of the final product.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager to develop a better understanding of the different product types vs application and improve the existing technology.
  • Provision of support to APIC suppliers and partner companies as required.

The successful candidate should fulfil the following requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent subject
  • Strong Maths and Physics knowledge
  • Knowledge of power electronics, particularly passive components
  • Experience in research and development projects
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to undertake different tasks in parallel
  • Attention to detail, methodical and goal oriented
  • Fluent technical English – written and spoken
  • Full UK/EU driving licence

API is seeking a technically competent External Sales Engineer to promote and sell power electronic capacitor solutions and designs to customers across industrial and OEM markets. The role combines technical expertise with commercial acumen to develop new business and support existing accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage customer relationships, identifying new sales opportunities

Provide technical advice on capacitor selection, application, and performance

Prepare quotations, proposals, and technical documentation

Collaborate with engineering and product teams to deliver customer solutions

Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements

Support customers through the full sales cycle, from enquiry to delivery

Ideal candidate

Ability to work as part of a team.

Willingness to travel.

Willingness to join weekly meetings, relating to production and sales.

Some power electronics knowledge.

Interest in capacitors.

Must have

Sales experience, ideally allied to power electronic/ pulse power products..

Degree qualified, HNC/HND, or demonstrable time served experience in industry sectors.
